I'm writing yet another update while in the midst of travels and I'm on the final leg of my latest adventures. By the time I get home, I will have flown 19,225 miles in 25 days! The journey has been a blessing, but now I'm on my way back to North Carolina just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving—and there is much to be thankful for! For one, opportunities to connect with various people throughout these last few weeks has been a huge blessing. One example is that my friend Kristine from Switzerland was visiting Hong Kong for a short-term missions trip with a team from her church. We were able to reconnect after not having seeing each other face-to-face since she was at RBTC USA. Not only that, but while being able to see RBTC Thailand for the first time was a joy, the greater purpose for my trip to Bangkok was to be a blessing and encouragement to my friends who are serving the ministry there. David and Stacey Sherril were so kind to open their home for me to stay with them. I knew Stacey from when we were in classes together at Southwestern Christian University, but what a joy to get to know her and David's heart for Thailand. Reconnecting with my dear friend Cindy was a key reason for my trip, though, and a special gift as well. She and John transitioned to Thailand last December, and while we purpose to have regular Skype visits, face-to-face is so much better! I enjoyed experiencing part of their weekly routine, helping decorate for Christmas, hearing John teach, laughing much, and, of course, sharing and praying with Cindy. We are excited about what God has in store for Women of Glory in 2015! So really, although I went to Thailand to be an encouragement to all of them there, in the end, I left refreshed and encouraged as well. Truly, we are stronger together. As I reflect on these last weeks, there is much to be thankful for. Greater than any experiences along the journey, though, are the relationships formed and cultivated along the way, and during this season of Thanksgiving, know how much I cherish the connection that we have as well. Count your blessings, give thanks, celebrate family near and far, and know you are loved! I'll touch base again when I'm back in the States!

While part of my purpose for being in Hong Kong this time was website strategizing for RBTC Hong Kong and voiceover work for the RBTC Online Mandarin project, my favorite assignment this time was teaching in the RBTC Hong Kong classroom! Supportive Ministry is an area very dear to me and I believe the students caught what is at the heart of it all: Servanthood. All of the students in class are already actively serving in their church's ministry of helps, but I still had numerous students approach me after class to share how what was taught challenged and changed their perspective on how and why they were serving. They were also able to see how having a heart of a servant is meant to spill out into every area of their lives...not just in serving at church. I look forward to being able to share with them again when I travel back in January to teach a course on “The Life of Honor”. They are a great group! For now, though, it's final packing time for my trip to Thailand tomorrow!
It was such a privilege to be invited to talk with the high schoolers at Door of Life Church's “Inspirational Girls Night”. After sharing, the Holy Spirit poured out His love individually for each of the girls there as I followed His leading and ministered to each one in song. Pastor Julie House texted me later saying, “Thank you for stepping out tonight, for giving of yourself and following your heart. The presence of God was strong!! I know that hearts were touched...” There were a number of adults there, too. As some of them shared with me afterwards, it became clear that part of what I spoke on that night was for them as well. I love that God had a willingness and desire to minister to every person that was there...not just the girls. One of the women at the church is also a writer for Guideposts magazine. She approached me and expressed an interest in submitting my story relating to self-injury as a potential article for publication. I thank God for opening doors of opportunity like this. God has a special way of using testimonies to open people's hearts to receive His truth and redeeming love. I’ve been back home for a month, but as I write…it's time to go yet again! It’s been a glorious month of refreshing between the Kindle the Flame Women’s conference in Oklahoma, time with family in North Carolina, enjoying the amazing colors of fall in the Smoky Mountains, special outdoor encounters like the one pictured here, and soaking in God’s Word and His precious presence during over a week of special services with Rev. Joel Siegel in both NC and GA . I've gotten filled up, and now it’s time to go pour out again! The best way to keep what you've received is to give it away! I leave in just a few days to return to Hong Kong to teach at the RBTC there as well as to continue working on voiceover recordings for the online program we are developing. I will also be helping to administrate at the school while the directors are away ministering in Indonesia. It will be wonderful to see all the students again and to experience their growth since I was there for the start of the school year in September. I expect good reports to share! What I am especially stirred about right now, however, are the opportunities coming up in these next few days. While I was in Hong Kong in September, my friend Pastor Julie House in Door County, Wisconsin e-mailed me to say she had been praying for me and my ministry. In the midst, God laid it on her heart that the time was right for another outreach to the young women in their local Jr. High and High Schools, and at His direction she asked me to come back to share again at Door of Life Church. We will be gathering for two events, Sunday night at the church and then again on Monday afternoon for a more casual yet intimate gathering with the girls at the pastors' home. We have been praying and preparing for this for a number of weeks now, and know that God the Father has a plan to minister life and love to these precious young women. As I spoke to the local school’s counselor last week, she shared that many of the students she sees are struggling with self-injury and low self-worth. But Jesus shed His blood so that these girls don't have to! I know that God’s love, His Word, and His precious presence will make a life-changing impact on those who come these next two days. Join with us in believing that those who God draws to these times with Him will not leave the same! |
