Greece Reflections

I'm back home from Greece and getting back into my Stateside routine while still reflecting back a bit on my time overseas.  I shared a little in an earlier BLOG, but I wanted to share a few more stories about how I saw the power of prayer and experienced the gift and privilege of being led by His Spirit. Here’s a few personal testimonies of His faithfulness…

NEW LIFE- God’s timing is always perfect. In so many ways, my going to Greece when I did didn’t make sense in the natural, but I always trust that God is directing my steps. Although there was opportunity to teach in the school and help with some office responsibilities, one of the key reasons for my being there was for the birth of a baby… and of course, God knew the timing of that! In the days leading up to the birth, I was able to be an encouragement to the mother, but in the midst of some complications and the baby’s heart rate dropping during the actual birth, I also had the privilege to pray and stand in faith with the family. There was such peace, and God showed Himself faithful… she was born quickly, naturally and in good health. To be one of the first to pray a blessing over this precious child was a great joy, and she, too, will bring joy to many!

PROTECTION IN YIELDING TO PRAY- My final day to teach in the class, we were on our way to the school. As we were driving, I was somewhat unsettled. Now traffic and driving practices are quite a bit different overseas (and could legitimately be considered unsettling in some places!), but I had been riding with others for over a week already and had not been bothered by it. But that evening, I almost felt guilty for being concerned that time and kept trying to dismiss it. Finally, I simply yielded to pray. For most of the drive I was praying quietly in the Spirit. Then, less than one block away from the school, another car failed to give us the right of way at an intersection and we were hit. Although we were a bit shaken, no one in the car was injured and the damage to our car was minimal… quite amazing for the speed the other car was going. By only a matter of a few seconds the result would have been much different. I later found out that the driver of the car had also begun praying quietly herself, just before we were struck. We were praising God for His protection… and after an exchange of information, class carried on!

AVOIDING DELAYS- Another example of being led by His Spirit involved my travel arrangements. When I made my flight reservations a number of months ago, I had the option of flying though London or Spain. I have friends in London, so naturally, that would have been a nice place to have a layover in hopes to see them, but I had a strong impression that I needed to go through Spain. When it comes to any area of life, but especially flying, I rely on His leading. Sometimes it can be a matter of life and death. This time, it may have only been an issue of avoiding delays, but God cares about the smallest details of our lives! I was returning to the States right when the cargo plane bombing plot had been uncovered. There were extra security measures in place at the airport, but a number of people commented how much worse the delays were in London because their security precautions were especially high. We were able to leave Spain on time and without much hassle. God is so good, and I'm so glad I know Him!

I’m thankful for the time I was able to spend in Greece and trust that God’s purposes were accomplished.  Some other ladies from Tulsa leave in about a week to go minister and serve there as well.  More laborers being sent into His harvest! Praise God!
