When someone asked him at dinner what moment in history stood out to him the most in his life, he said he’d need to think about it. Later, as he was about to blow out the candles on his cake, he told us his answer with tears in his eyes… It was the day he came to know Jesus as His Lord and Savior. The second most important date in history to him was the day he married my Grandma.
His sharing what he did caused me to stop and reflect on what’s most important in my own life. When my Grandpa was asked the question at dinner, I think we all were anticipating an answer relating to some moment in U.S. or world history that Grandpa had lived through. My Grandpa has seen and experienced much in his 90 years, but when it's all said and done, it's God and family that means the most to him. What an important lesson. I’ll never forget it.
