The Journey of Snow
As part of my recent Grief and Loss Counseling course for my Master's in Counseling degree, we were asked to develop a creative project reflecting on topics from the class. Mine is a poem and visual experience exploring the idea of cumulative loss and grief called The Journey of Snow. I see this as a focus on more than just cumulative losses of death, too. Losses come in a variety of ways: death, divorce, neglect, job loss, transitions, and more. On some levels, the poem speaks of engaging varied parts of story and self, as well.
I am so aware, for many reasons, that the Holy Spirit was centrally involved in this coming together as it did. From the spontaneity of the original words as they came up in my heart, to the way things puzzled together on the screen, I know I could not have done this on my own. I have already chosen to share it with a number of others, as well, and the feedback I have received is that it is resonating deeply with the people who have watched. Each story that people have told me has only affirmed the Holy Spirit’s hand in it, and while the poem and video do not speak directly to God’s Name or His unique part in our healing process, I know He is working through the poem to connect with hearts.
As the project itself emphasizes, however, everyone’s grief journey is unique, and this video will not speak to every person’s heart or situation. I do hope that it means something to you today, though. Thank you for taking the time to watch it.
